Who can provide short breaks?
You might already have knowledge and experience of caring for, or working with, children who have complex health needs or disabilities and this could be an opportunity for you to transfer your skills into a different type of caring role. However, anyone who is willing to learn and who can create a safe, consistent and supportive environment, establishing positive relationships is encouraged to apply to provide short breaks to children with disabilities. Caring for a child and supporting them and their family in this way is a hugely rewarding experience.
Criteria
- Have a minimum of one spare bedroom for those carers intending to offer overnight short breaks
- Be over the age of 21 years old
- Be willing to undertake mandatory training
- Be willing to attend support groups
- Be willing to have background checks undertaken
- All members of household must be willing to be part of the assessment process
It is also desirable that you:
- Have a robust extended network of support available
- Have a qualification in childcare equivalent to HNC/SVQ Level 3 and/or are willing to work towards one. Extensive relevant experience will also be considered.
We are also recruiting for Foster Carers to provide short breaks for care experienced children currently living within fostering families who require a wider network of support which includes regular short breaks.
