Kinship Services in West Lothian

Kinship carers play a vital role in keeping our children safe. In Scotland kinship care makes up the biggest proportion of our looked after children and we know that carers make a vital contribution to the positive outcomes we see for our children. Many kinship carers however, find themselves in the role without much preparation or time, often having experienced bereavement, trauma or difficult circumstances themselves. We know that kinship care can bring complex situations such as family time with other siblings or relationships with birth parents that can be complex and difficult to manage. We know many of our carers talk about the conflicting roles they have of supporting birth parents and children at different stages. In west Lothian we have a dedicated Kinship Team who, in partnership with Childrens 1st, offer a bespoke support service to all kinship carers in the area.

The West Lothian Kinship Care Team is made up of social workers, who are involved in the assessment and support of formal kinship carers, and support workers who offer support services to both informal and formal carers. Please get in touch if we can support you in any way.
